Hazardous Chemical Sign – Site Entrance Multiple Hazards Hazchem Sign

Prevent accidents involving highly hazardous chemicals/liquids with our Site Entrance Multiple Hazards Hazchem Sign.

Site Entrance Multiple Hazards Hazchem Sign

Our Site Entrance Multiple Hazards Hazchem Signs are designed to provide a single, clear display of all hazardous substances present on-site. This ensures compliance with HSNO regulations and NZS/AS 1319:1994 and makes it easy for visitors, contractors, and emergency responders to identify risks before entering.

Purpose

  • Consolidate multiple hazard symbols into one sign for clarity.

  • Help visitors and first responders quickly identify on-site hazards.

  • Reduce sign clutter at site entrances and improve compliance.

Colour Options

We offer two background options to suit your site’s needs:

  • White Background: Best for general site entrances where maximum contrast and readability are required.

  • Orange Background: Recommended for high-risk sites, chemical manufacturing areas, and locations where a more urgent warning is needed.

If you’re unsure which background is required, check your Health & Safety plan or HSNO compliance documentation.

Example Scenario

For example: A site storing flammable liquids, oxidising agents, and toxic substances can display all three pictograms together on a single sign at the entrance, making it easy for responders to know what risks exist.

Mounting Options & Material Details

  • Self-Adhesive Vinyl: Laminated, outdoor rated.

  • PVC Sheet (2 mm): Rigid and weather-resistant for wall or fence mounting.

  • ACM Panel (4 mm): Lightweight, strong, and perfect for long-term outdoor use on gates or posts.

  • Corflute: Ideal for temporary or short-term installations.

  • Magnetic (Available in 300 × 225 mm, 450 × 337 mm, 600 × 450 mm): Perfect for temporary use on vehicles, steel gates, or movable barriers.

Where to Use

  • Main site entrances and gateposts.

  • Perimeter fencing for depots, yards, and hazardous storage sites.

  • Vehicle access points for large facilities.

Compliance

This sign meets NZS/AS 1319:1994 for legibility and placement when sized correctly. It must be displayed at every entrance to the site and kept clean and unobstructed for maximum visibility.

Need a custom layout, extra hazard symbols, or help choosing the right background colour? We can customise this sign for a $25 design fee – just contact us and we’ll prepare a proof for approval.

If your site handles flammable liquids, corrosives, or toxic substances, each product belongs to a Dangerous Goods class. Visit Understanding Dangerous Goods Classes 1–9 to see how each class affects your transport and storage signage requirements across NZ and Australia.

Where multiple chemicals are stored or processed, an Emergency Information Panel (EIP) sign is usually required at entrances. Our post Emergency Information Panel Signs Explained walks through what details (UN numbers, hazard codes and emergency contacts) must appear to stay compliant with NZS 5433 and WorkSafe NZ regulations.

Whether your entrance is a narrow gate or a large facility driveway, sign size and material matter for visibility and longevity. Check How to Choose the Right Size and Material for Your Hazard Signs for recommended dimensions — from 300 mm for close-range to 1200 mm for roadside placement.

Magnetic mounting option for the Site Entrance Multiple Hazards Hazchem Sign

Flexible, vehicle-grade magnetic placards with the Site Entrance Multiple Hazards Hazchem Sign printed on premium vinyl, laminated, and mounted to automotive magnetic sheeting. They stick to ferrous steel panels and remove without residue—ideal for vehicles that only carry DG sometimes.

Who they’re for

  • Contractors / couriers who transport Dangerous Goods occasionally

  • Hire or multi-use vehicles (no permanent signage)

  • Sites that swap classes depending on load (quick changeover)

  • Magnet: vehicle-grade sheet, 0.8–1.0 mm thick (30–40 mil), high-energy.

  • Face film: outdoor self-adhesive vinyl + UV laminate (gloss).

  • Operating temp: suitable from winter cold to summer heat (typical automotive range).

Where they work (and don’t)

  • Works on: painted steel panels that are flat, clean, and smooth.

  • Doesn’t work on: aluminium, stainless, plastics, composites, heavy body filler; vinyl wraps, ceramic coatings, heavily textured paint.

  • If customers have aluminium doors/ute trays, suggest self-adhesive or rigid ACM instead.

Fitment checklist

  1. Clean & dry the panel (no wax/polish).

  2. Warm, flat magnet—no curl.

  3. Apply to flat steel only; press from centre out.

  4. Do not bridge panel gaps, ribs or sharp curves.

  5. Remove daily to clean/dry both surfaces; store flat.

  6. In heavy rain/highway speeds, check edges haven’t lifted.

Care & maintenance

  • Remove and wipe after wet weather; store flat (never rolled tight).

  • Move position slightly each week to avoid differential fading.

  • Avoid use on freshly resprayed paint (allow full cure).

Compliance note

  • Magnet is a mounting method. The operator must ensure placards are the correct class, size, and securely affixed for the journey. Some carriers or site rules may require permanent/rigid placards—check your procedure.

NZS/AS 1319:1994 advocates simplicity and clarity in safety signage. To be effective, they should be easy to read and interpret at a glance.

The Standard is about the use of legible text and appropriate, simple symbols.

By simplifying the message, it reduces the risk of misinterpretation, which increases the chances of the sign’s warning or instruction being followed.

Enhancing the sign’s visibility through placement and colour

Placement and visibility will play a crucial role in the efficiency of safety signs.

The standard states that signs must be positioned near the hazard they are warning about, which ensures that the safety message is relevant. Also, it advocates the use of contrasting colours for the background and lettering. This attention to the colour scheme will increase visibility and readability from a reasonable distance, which ensures the message is accessible.
